This year has been a rollercoaster of amazing events. In 2024, I had the privilege of participating in a three-month residency at Greenwich House Pottery in New York City, a place where I have always dreamt of being a resident artist for numerous reasons. Following that, I had the opportunity to teach a series of workshops at La Meridiana, the International School of Ceramic Art in Italy, where sharing techniques, learning from others, and creating a lifelong friendship with the founder, Pietro Madallena, enriched my own practice in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
Now, I find myself back in a place close to my heart, The Leach Pottery. It’s been seven years since I first came here as an International Volunteer, and returning this fall to assist the production team feels like an incredible full-circle moment. Back in 2017, the year I spent as a potter at Leach was one of the best times of my life. The experience deepened my understanding of studio pottery and gave me a profound appreciation for the craftsmanship and community that the Leach studio fosters. The friendships made during that year never faded and am so happy to pick up right where we left off upon this return. I could have never imagined that I would one day be invited back to help produce the iconic standard ware range that represents Leach's legacy.
Being back in St. Ives after all these years is a nostalgic and humbling experience. The town, the people, the pottery—it’s all basically the same, yet it feels different. Perhaps it’s the perspective that time brings, or maybe it’s the continued growth in myself that has allowed me to see things through a new lens. The memories of my earlier days here flood in, but this time feels special—rich with reflection and purpose.
As part of my time here, I’ll be working towards an exhibition that will open in the Leach Pottery Shop and online in December. It’s an incredible honor to be able to contribute to this historic studio once again, and I’m eager to share the new work that’s being shaped by both my past and present experiences here.
